Euro pics (2009)
The owner of this horn-shaped men’s toilet (in a pub in Freibourg – Germany) has received complaints by insulted musician customers. To my mind this is an impressive work of art that could be appropriate for a modern art exhibition or Biennale but it seems like it is deemed as an insult by some musicians. However, I as a musician opposed to discrimination against artists, find it really interesting because obviously the designer?s intent was not to provoke or insult.
I would not be mistaken to assume that those who complained were classical musicians, who are known for their “purism”. I remember my old classical guitar teacher who used to tell me: “What are you listening to? David Bowie and Guns n Roses? These are just worthless little songs” and “The term classical music is incorrect, it should be called serious music!”. As if the folk, jazz, rock etc were non-serious, worthless music….
