Charlie Chaplin was one of the most important artists of the cinema. An artist who whatever was pretending to be in his movies made it action in his life; he denounced the conservative establishment and fought against the stereotypes.

The Great Dictator” is probably his most important work, not just because it is a good movie but because of its powerful meaning. Every progressive person would agree with that.

In the movie Charlie has a dual role. He is both a dictator, an Adolf Hitler replica, and a Jew barber who confronts the discrimination and violence of the fascist regime. Towards the end of the movie the original dictator falls into a river, gets dirty and is led into a concentration camp, while the barber, secretly dressed like a soldier in order to escape from the camp, is mistaken for the dictator.

The_Venus_Project_by_SmokesQuantityA few months ago we found out about the Venus Project which indeed is something unique. I am sure a lot of people have been informed about it, some maybe not. The Venus project is an organization with main goals the change of the social and political establishment to a new, higher life-system which is based on the most important human ideal, freedom and social development based on the positive endeavours of technology.

The Venus Project (V.P.) first identifies the root of the problem: money is used to control the behavior and life of those with limited purchasing power. The Earth is being plundered for profit. The humans could have access to everything thanks to the technology and if that could be used in a positive way, there can be massive changes to the whole human society. Using technology, for example, people can travel easily and quickly thanks to magnet trains that can be constructed. How about traveling in 3 hours from London to Beijing with a speed of 3.000 km/ h? No fuel, no gas, more eco-friendly houses while using technology we could have almost everything without spending massive working hours doing something that does not make us happy. For example, no one would have to work in the factories, the machines would do almost everything while work could be a free choice and not a demand for survival. For further information watch the 2 hour video further down.

This is another song from the album “Forever Moving and Still“. It is based on inner thougts and feelings like isolation, being an outcast (proud of it but disliking it at the same time), being against the establishment and the stereotypes. A good song for those who want to break all the borders, a song for those who reject nationalism (I was born everywhere) and discrimination. An uncomfortable song for those who stick to the same conservative ideas of country, religion, for those who feel proud because it just happened to be born somewhere, for those who believe that another person who was born a few kilometers away is necessarily less important or inferior. black-sheep

There is no doubt that we, the artists, are called to face a tough discrimination from the rest of the community. Artists have often been considered as second class employees, the inactive and unskilled individuals usually connected with underworld societies.

The problem was mentioned in previous posts but there was no further research as the posts were focused on different subjects, thus I consider it important to examine it separately.

Some could say, those who treat the artists like unimportant human beings are only an insignificant bunch of uneducated very conservative people. Posted: 9 April 2009. Continue reading »
